Jacob Kvasnicka scored the tiebreaking goal in the third period as the Penticton Vees extended their win streak to 14 games with a 5-3 victory over the Red Deer Rebels at the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC) on Jan. 25.
Kvasnicka made it 4-3, his team-leading 26th, at 9:07 of the final frame after Penticton (29-9-4-3) squandered a 3-0 lead it owned in the first period.
Brady Birnie, Matteo Danis, Noah Milford, and Diego Johnson also scored for the Vees. Birnie and Danis added assists, and goaltender A.J. Reyelts made 36 saves.
The Vees’ win on Sunday, in front of a little more than 3,000 at the SOEC, marked the expansion club’s third victory in as many nights.
Penticton also beat Spokane on Friday, Jan. 23, at home, 6-0, before blanking Kelowna 5-0 at Prospera Place on Saturday night, Jan. 24.
The team’s win streak dates back to Dec. 17, when it beat the Prince George Cougars in the last game before the WHL holiday break.
Its current streak marks the longest in the Canadian Hockey League.
Penticton remains atop the B.C. Division, seven points ahead of Prince George.
