A call to report someone in possession of a handgun led Kelowna RCMP to arrest three people.
On Jan. 25, police were called to the Postill Lake area for reports of individuals in possession of a handgun. The Proactive Enforcement Unit located the subject vehicle and maintained surveillance while awaiting the Kelowna Gang Enforcement Team.
Officers stopped the vehicle with three occupants inside. A search of the vehicle resulted in seizure of a firearm.
Two of the individuals were arrested and released, while the third was found to be the subject of an immigration warrant and remains in custody.
“Thanks to a community member who took the time to report suspicious activity, our officers were able to respond quickly and effectively,” said Kelowna RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Steven Lang. “The coordinated work between the Proactive Enforcement Unit and Kelowna Gang Enforcement Team resulted in a firearm being removed from our streets and three individuals being taken into custody. This is a strong example of how community awareness, reporting and police action together help keep Kelowna safe.”
