The Kelowna Chiefs came away with the short end of the stick during a high-scoring affair against the Princeton Posse.
Princeton was able to come out strong, scoring thrice in the first period to start the game with an early lead.
At 7:25 of the second, Ben Dods scored his third of the season to give the Posse a 4-0 lead.
Kelowna’s prolific scorer Owen Miller was able to get his 24th goal of the season at 8:59 of the middle frame to give the Chiefs a lifeline in the match.
The Chiefs’ hopes were quickly squandered as two goals from Princeton’s Caleb Leischner and Jace Shuttleworth made it a 6-1 game in favour of the Posse.
At the end of the second period, Carter Ponte scored the second goal of the game for Kelowna on a power play.
Reaching the final frame, Princeton scored once again with a goal from Jalen McRae, making it 7-2.
Kelowna was able to find enough willpower to mount a small comeback, scoring three times before the game ended with goals from Aiden Morcom, Sam Dalcin, and Liam Munro.
The 7-5 loss for the Chiefs leaves them in third place in the KIJHL’s Bill Ohlhausen Division with a record of 26-12-3-3.
The Chiefs will return on Friday, March 6, against the Princeton Posse in their home arena.
