West Kelowna RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in finding a suspect wanted in connection with an unprovoked assault that occurred over a month ago.

Just before 7 a.m. on Feb. 3, RCMP responded to a report of an assault on BC Transit Bus 6010 while it was stopped at Highway 97 and Butt Road northbound.

Officers spoke with the victim, who said an unknown man approached him without warning and punched him in the nose. The suspect exited through the rear door of the bus, causing damage to the door weld as he kicked it open.

“The assault is believed to be unprovoked, and the suspect and victim were not know,” stated a West Kelowna RCMP release.

During its investigation, Mounties have obtained a photo of the suspect, but have been unable to confirm identity. With the public’s help, officers are hoping to find the suspect.

“We are asking anyone who can identify the individual in the photo to contact police,” said West Kelowna RCMP media relations officer Const. Ash Puri. “Public assistance can play a crucial role in helping us move the investigation forward.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has surveillance/video footage, or recognizes the suspect is asked to call West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880 with the file number 2026-6771.
