First Okanagan drone show flies high for Canada Day in Vernon

VOICE Society has a full day of fun planned in Polson Park on July 1

There may not be fireworks, but you can still catch some spectacular entertainment from the skies for Canada Day.

The Vernon Okanagan Inspired Community Events (VOICE) Society has a full day of fun planned in Polson Park on July 1.

The festivities kick off with a kids skate competition at 10 a.m., followed by live performances starting at 12:30 and continuing through the evening, including the adult skate competition at 5 p.m.

"To cap off the evening, we are thrilled to present the first ever drone show in the Okanagan," said VOICE of the 10 p.m. event. "Watch in awe as 250 drones light up the sky in a 15-minute performance that promises to be a highlight of the day."

The vibrant, cultural displays of the Kalamalka Highlanders and Sadok Ukrainian Dancers will be on display at 12:30, followed by a Drum Circle with Bobby Bovenzi.

Jonah the Fluffy Busker takes the stage at 2:30 p.m., followed by Matt Ryan, Sidney Bos, Mozi Bones, October Poppy, Linus and Apollo Suns caps the evening at 8:30 p.m.

Park goers can also explore the Polson Artisan Market, where local artists and craftspeople will showcase their unique creations.

For food enthusiasts, a food truck garden will feature a diverse selection of delicious options.

Car lovers won't want to miss the mini car show, presented by the Cruise-In Car Club.

Families and kids are in for a special treat with Karen the animatronic dinosaur making an appearance from the Okanagan Science Centre. 

"We'll have a wide variety of other local organizations from the community coming down to set up booths and feature their love of the community as well," VOICE said. "Come celebrate Canada Day with us and enjoy a day packed with entertainment, culture, and community spirit."
