‘Saved countless lives’: Central Okanagan Search and Rescue member honoured

Rob Braun was presented with a 25-year service pin on Nov. 30.

Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) recognized one of its own recently for a quarter century of service.

Rob Braun was presented with a 25-year service pin on Nov. 30.

A post on the COSAR Facebook page states Braun is one of the team’s more active members running tasks, rope team leader, team lead, and instructor, as well as snowmobile, boat, swift water, and ATV team member.

Braun is also a former COSAR executive member and current BC Search and Rescue Association advisory committee regional representative.

He started with Westbank Search and Rescue in the 1990s and over his career he has saved countless lives.

Braun has seen tasks ranging from plane crashes, to missing children, recoveries, and finding missing hunters.

He also played active roles in the 2003 and 2023 wildfire evacuations in Kelowna.

“An electrical engineer by trade, he is also a very people-focused person with a passion for helping others, which comes across in his teaching and mentoring,” COSAR’s Facebook post reads.

Braun has been a part of the Community Recreational Initiative Society (CRIS) for 20 years, providing outdoor opportunities for people with disabilities, and is currently their operations technician.
