A former Okanagan College Coyote and Kelowna Falcon has officially received his invitation to MLB spring training.

The Tampa Bay Rays has invited right-handed pitcher Trevor Brigden to their spring training, which starts on Feb. 14 for pitchers and catchers.

Now 28 years old, Brigden was drafted by the Rays in the 17th round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

The North York, Ont., native made 44 appearances for Tampa Bay’s AAA affiliate the Durham Bulls in 2023, posting a 3.46 ERA and a 4-4 record with 95 strikeouts in 78 innings pitched.

Brigden also pitched for Team Canada at the 2023 World Baseball Classic last March, where he made two appearances, throwing 1.1 innings with three strikeouts and a walk.

Brigden could potentionally be teammates with another former Falcon, as the Rays have reportedly signed pitcher Phil Maton, according to various MLB sources. The deal has not been finalized.
