A stabbing on Canada Day in downtown Kelowna has led to a significant drug seizure by RCMP.

Just after 8 a.m. on July 1, officers responded to Richter Street and Coopland Crescent to find a man had suffered stab wounds in what is believed to be a targeted incident. The man was taken to hospital and was later released.

Officers determined that a nearby home, along with two vehicles were associated with the investigation. Several people in and around the home were arrested.

After obtaining search warrants, officers seized approximately 1.5 kilograms of suspected cocaine, two kilograms of suspected methamphetamine, and $33,000 in cash.

RCMP is preparing several charges to be submitted to the BC Prosecution Service, including assault and possession for the purposes of trafficking. All parties have since been released from custody pending further investigation.

“Nearly all of the individuals involved are not even from Kelowna, yet decided to bring their criminal behaviour here and try to tarnish what we considered a pretty successful and safe Canada Day long weekend for our residents and tourists alike,” said Cpl. Michael Gauthier.
