Princeton area man dies after vehicle plunges into Similkameen River

Princeton RCMP controlled the scene, and waited for the coroner to arrive.

A man was killed Wednesday, June 23, after the SUV he was driving left Highway 3, travelled down an embankment, and flipped over in the Similkameen River. RCMP confirmed the deceased is from the Princeton area.

The incident occurred just east of town at approximately 1:30 p.m.

A witness, who was passing the scene as the man’s body was being recovered, told the Spotlight that first responders were trying to restore life to driver.

“They were pressing on his chest…They had just pulled him out. The ambulance was there, and fire trucks.”

According to police, next of kin have been notified.

The man, who has not yet been identified to media, was born in 1958.
